LA-ICP-MS analysis of sulfide trace elements in section OREX-800088-9

Author

Melissa Kontogiannis

Description

LA-ICP-MS analysis was performed on the largest sulfide, a Cu-bearing sulfide grain with a cubanite/isocubanite-like composition, in section OREX-800088-9. This analysis entailed mapping approximately the lower 2/3 of the grain and some of the surrounding matrix using a series of line scans. The purpose of this analysis was to identify and quantify the trace elements in the sulfide grain and surrounding matrix, and investigate trends within and/or relationships between trace element abundances to understand element partitioning and look for evidence of alteration around the grain's edge.
