LA-ICP-MS analysis of sulfide trace elements in section OREX-800023-16

Author

Melissa Kontogiannis

Description

LA-ICP-MS analysis was performed on the largest sulfide, a pyrrhotite grain, in section OREX-800023-16, which entailed mapping approximately half of the grain and the surrounding matrix using line scans. The purpose of this analysis was to identify and quantify the trace elements in the sulfide grain and surrounding matrix, and investigate trends within and/or relationships between trace element abundances to understand element partitioning and look for evidence of alteration around the grain's edge.
