Scanning Electron Microscopy imaging of micro impact craters and other surface features on angular particle OREX-800123-0.

Authors

Alan HildebrandLincoln Hanton

Description

Scanning electron microscopy imaging performed at UCa resulting in initial atmospheric exposure of Bennu angular particle OREX-800123-0 to explore micro-crater candidates on the particle’s surface previously identified in an x-ray computed tomography (XCT) - derived shape model (created using Dragonfly 3D World software from XCT scans done at JSC). The bundled data include overview images of the particle, and detailed images of 24 areas including crater candidates and other surface features. The generally oblique images show a variety of crater shapes, some containing interior melt, and some with associated cracks.
