Ryugu (C0378) Data for "Prebiotic organic compounds in asteroid Bennu and Ryugu reflect divergent parent-body histories"
Contributor
Description
This dataset contains gas chromatography-triple quadrupole mass spectrometry results acquired from subsamples of the aggregate sample C0378 returned from asteroid (162173) Ryugu by the Hayabusa2 mission. Three analyses were conducted: 1) 1.8 milligrams of sample was thermally degraded by flash pyrolysis at 600 C to release volatile and macromolecularly bound organic compounds; 2) 2 milligrams of sample was treated with tetramethylammonium hydroxide in methanol and analyzed by two-step thermochemolysis consisting of a ramped heating 400 to 500 C with cryogenic trapping of the evolved products, followed by flash heating of the same sample at 600 C; 3) 1.5 milligrams of sample was derivatized with N-(tert-butyldimethylsilyl)-N-methyltrifluoroacetamide in N,N-dimethylformamide. Associated blanks are included for all samples. Data was collected in full scan, multiple reaction monitoring, or simultaneous full scan and multiple reaction monitoring modes as specified in the sample list file. The purpose of this dataset is to characterize the macromolecular (insoluble organic matter - IOM) and solvent-extractable (soluble organic matter - SOM) organic reservoirs of Ryugu, including polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons and their alkylated homologues, sulfur-, oxygen-, and nitrogen-bearing heterocyclic aromatic compounds, carboxylic acids, amino acids, and nitrogen heterocycles.
